Great turnout for Open House

It was so nice to see so many students and their families at Open House last week. Thanks to everyone that took the time to stop by, meet our teachers, and tour our classrooms. Dozens of parents got to see how their kids spend the day at school.

Our Big Bluey Thrift was also a big hit. Students were able to pick out some vintage West Wear free of charge. Our goal is to expand to other gently used clothing as well. So stay tuned for more information on that in the coming weeks.

Open House was also the official launch of our 2022 “Invest in West” campaign. Invest is the PTSO’s primary fundraiser of the year. Our goal is to raise $19k to help support teachers and staff.

Don’t Forget Open House

We are so excited to welcome back our Blue Jay families this week for Open House. Join us on Thursday, August 25th from 5:30pm – 7pm. You’ll hear from Mr. Stephens and then get a chance to meet your student’s teachers and see their classrooms.

You’ll also be able to grab some new West Wear, tell us what you think about our new Big Bluey Thrift store (for West Wear and other clothes your kids have outgrown) and even pick up one of our new “West is Best” yard signs.

Can’t wait to see everyone there!

Mr. Strong’s Spring Break Trip Meeting

Mr. Strong is organizing a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands! You can find all the details on Mr. Strong’s Epic Galapagos Trip Homepage [nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com]. The trip will take place during spring break in March 2023, and is open to all West End students AND their families!

If you’d like to learn more – Mr. Strong is hosting an informational meeting at 5pm on Thursday, August 25th right before the Open House.

Last Chance to Get Your City Saver Books

Who doesn’t want to save money – especially these days? West End has you covered. Students are selling 2023 City Saver books. Each book costs $30 but includes hundreds of dollars in saving from more than 250 Middle Tennessee restaurants, stores, and attractions. All the money raised helps support after-school and extracurricular activities.

Our goal is for each student to sell 2 books. But anyone that doesn’t want to participate can simply return your book to school.

Friday is Picture Day

Everyone needs to bring their best smile on Friday. We are excited to be using a new company this year. This company uses “green screen” technology which allows you to customize your picture. The only downside is – students can’t wear green! If they do – their clothes will disappear into the background and you may not get the school picture you were hoping for.

Pictures will be taken in the morning. There will be a makeup day in September for anyone who can’t make it on Friday.

Welcome Back Blue Jays!

What a great first week it’s been. It’s been fun watching the kids catch up with their friends and get back into the swing of things at school.

If you haven’t seen them yet – be sure to check out some of our #FirstDay pics on the West End PTSO Facebook page. We’d love for you to share yours as well.

Drama Club

Nashville Creative House and West End Middle School are proud to present Alice this December. Auditions will be a cold read – so nothing to prepare in advance.

Rehearsals on Wednesdays from 4-5

The cost is $125 but scholarships are available to anyone that needs it.

Ukulele Club

Did you know West End has a Ukulele Club? The club is perfect for anyone that’s interested – no musical ability required! Classes will be taught by Dana Pirzchalski – the owner of The Song Spot. Dana graduated from Belmont University and is an avid musician. She is also trained in autism and behavioral support – so all students are welcome.
